The purpose of this site is to provide ideas for anyone to start implementing America 250 commemoration and celebration in their own community. We want to spark interest and inspire people to take action. Don't wait to take action when someone finally gets back to you. Grab and idea and run with it!
So much to do....
Honestly, from an event planning perspective, we are running very low on time to execute a succesful celebration that inpires a connection and that people will care about. Steps need to be taken and action needs to start NOW. Schools need to implement curriculum and start organizing exhbits, essay competitions and debates starting January 2025. Many state-wide activities can start right away. A grand finale in July 2026 needs to be planned as well. There is very little time to do this - Let's go!
What America Means to Me: Write your Essay!
Celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the Continental Congress adoption of the Declaration of Independence is something that millions of people will look forward to participating in.
They will stand for the pledge of allegiance, wave their flags with pride and let anyone who will listen that America is amazing.
But here is the thing: There is also an opposing sentiment like this article is from WaPo that suggests "Why Bother?"
Read the comments to that article you will find a general consensus that many people have a big desire to get what is wrong with America off their chest before they can celebrate it. Guess what - that is a great idea. We live in a country where you can do that. And America250.org's essay topic is the perfect opportunity to do just that.
"What America Means to Me" is the essay topic.
Everyone should write their essay, post it and pin it to their social media, enter it at their State Fair essay contest, publish it in the local paper. Put it all out there - the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. I believe writing about this topic could be cathartic and help unify the country. And when July 4, 2026 comes around, maybe we can all celebrate it together.
