  • The role of natural rights: What are considered "unalienable rights" and how should they be protected by a government?
  • Consent of the governed: How should a government ensure it is acting with the consent of the people, and what mechanisms exist to address grievances?
  • The legitimacy of grievances against King George III: Were the complaints listed in the Declaration justified and sufficient to warrant a break from British rule?
  • Impact on future movements: How have the principles of the Declaration of Independence been used to justify social and political movements like abolitionism, women's suffrage, and civil rights?
  • Balancing individual liberty with societal needs: How should the pursuit of individual happiness be balanced with the needs of the community?
  • The role of religion in government: Does the Declaration's reference to a "Creator" support the separation of church and state?
